For the Girls Opera is a not-for-profit arts organization based in Western Canada designed to uplift and celebrate female and female-identifying artists in opera.

We provide emerging female singers with full-role performance opportunities, empowering them to grow, shine, and take the next step in their careers. At the same time, we’re passionate about bringing the music of women composers to the forefront.

There’s no shortage of trained and capable sopranos (and mezzos), which makes competition for professional opportunities incredibly high and often leaves highly skilled singers without the early performance experience needed to launch sustainable careers.

At the same time, opera stages remain dominated by a narrow, traditional canon (often dead, white men), limiting both the stories we tell and the voices we hear.

That’s where we come in: creating female-focused opportunities for artists to develop their crafts while championing women composers to bring fresh perspectives and repertoire to our communities.
